District Heating Network

Installation of new steam ducts throughout the Altens, Aberdeen

CHAP delivered the civil engineering works for a major district heating network, excavating and reinstating trenches up to 1.5m deep across a 5km urban route.

With 80% of the works located within live carriageways, the project demanded complex traffic management, rigorous utility detection procedures and engineered trench support systems. A robust Permit to Dig process, supported by utility surveys, CAT and Genny scanning, and hand excavation where required, ensured safe delivery throughout.

By operating multiple work fronts simultaneously and coordinating excavation, pipe-laying and reinstatement teams, CHAP enabled the successful installation of Vital Energi’s insulated district heating network while minimising disruption to the local community and maintaining the highest standards of health and safety
